PetCode is a digital directory specializing in pet services across Ecuador, connecting dog and cat owners with veterinary and pet wellness providers in cities including Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca, Ambato, and Riobamba. The platform operates on a dual model: pet owners search and locate specialists, access exclusive promotions, and read educational content on animal care, while businesses register as partners to gain visibility and reach pet owners actively looking for services in their area.
When PetCode approached Menta, they had an existing web platform built in pure code by a single developer. The technical foundation worked, but the absence of professional design and a structured content management system had two consequences. The day-to-day operation of the platform depended entirely on developer availability, and the brand did not visually match the level of service PetCode wanted to project to both pet owners and partner businesses. PetCode needed a full rebuild with design quality matched to the brand and a CMS that would put operational control back in the hands of the internal team.
Menta delivered the full UX, UI, and web application development. The new platform integrates geolocation-based search across the cities PetCode serves, a complete partner registration flow with admin approval, an administrative interface for the PetCode team to manage partners and content, and a CMS covering the main content areas including the PetCode Academy blog. The engagement also includes an ongoing support and maintenance arrangement that has been running smoothly since launch, with Menta acting as the long-term technical partner for platform evolution and feature additions.
PetCode covers cities spread across Ecuador, and pet owners using the platform expect to see relevant providers near them rather than results from another part of the country. Without effective geolocation, the directory loses its core value. The platform needed to detect the visitor's city, surface relevant providers automatically, and let users explore neighboring areas without manual filtering on every search.
PetCode's B2B model depends on partner businesses self-registering on the platform to gain visibility. A fully open registration would expose the platform to low-quality or off-brand listings, while a fully gated process would slow down growth. The platform needed a registration flow that lets businesses submit their information independently but routes every application through an approval step before it goes live.
PetCode's previous platform tied every change to developer availability, which created bottlenecks for routine operations like updating blog content, editing partner profiles, or adjusting promotions. The new platform needed to give the PetCode team end-to-end control over what shows on the public site, without requiring technical intervention for normal operations.
A geolocation system was built into the platform's search experience, allowing visitors to find providers based on their current location, with manual override for visitors planning a trip to another city. Service category filters layer on top of the geolocation, so a user looking for Health and Wellness in Quito or Pet-Friendly Experiences in Cuenca reaches relevant results in one step. The result is a directory that behaves like a local map for each city it serves.
A registration flow was built where businesses submit their listing details (services offered, coverage area, contact information, photography) through a structured form, with the submission landing in an admin queue for the PetCode team. The team reviews each application, requests edits where needed, and approves or rejects from a single interface. Approved partners appear publicly in the directory immediately, while the PetCode team retains full curation control.
A custom CMS was implemented covering every public-facing content area: blog articles for the PetCode Academy, promotional cards for PetOfertas, partner profiles, service categorization, and city-level configuration. The PetCode team operates the entire platform from a single dashboard, with changes reflected immediately on the public site. Menta remains in place as the technical partner for non-routine work, but the day-to-day operation is fully in the client's hands.
